Deborah
L. Krotz-Dieleman is a general practice dentist from Washington,
Iowa. She graduated from the University of Iowa College of
Dentistry in 1989, and has been in private practice since then. She also has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central
University of Iowa in Biology.
Deb has traveled on numerous SMART trips throughout Honduras
and Guatemala. She enjoys watching her two children in their
activities, traveling with her family, and remodeling their 1870
home. One of her goals
is to bring her entire office staff on a mission trip someday.
"I
feel the trips with SMART are a refreshing experience that put life
priorities in perspective.
I am not a person who enjoys "roughing it"
by any means.
I hate to camp. However, the long, hot days of treating the endless stream of
patients will leave you extremely tired and ready to crash in most
any environment. The
patients are very humble in
thanking me.
It is quite rewarding to place anterior restorations in a
young adult and
show them in a mirror as well as extracting a tooth that is quite
infected on a patient who traveled several days to the clinic. Every
trip is different. I
have been able to establish close friendships with many other
volunteers. I also love
to see teenagers transformed in only a weekend.
